Students whose requests to change their Grade 10 school placement have been rejected will have an opportunity to apply again in January 2026, the Ministry of Education has hinted.
The first revision is set to come to an end on Monday, December 29, 2025.
According to Basic Education Principal Secretary Prof Julius Bitok, over 116,000 revisions have been approved with over 68,000 rejected.
Bitok said the rejection were due to limited spaces in schools where the applicants wanted to be moved to.

He noted that most of the revisions were targeting to be played in the top Senior Schools (known as C1 – formerly National Schools). Currently, there are 226 C1 schools.
“The main reason why we are declining most of the requests is because of capacity. More than 50,000 students are interested in 20 schools,” the PS said.
However, he noted that there are several C1 schools where learners are not interested in joining.
The schools, the PS said, are located in far-flung areas.
“We have quite a number of C1 schools in some far-flung areas which are not attracting enough students and as a ministry, we are thinking hard to see how best can we ensure that all our C1 schools receive students around the country,” he said.
When will second revision for Grade 10 placement be done?
With the Senior School learners expected to report from January 26, PS Bitok said they will open second revision between January 6th and January 9th.

The revisions allows learners to change their pathways and schools.
Most learners have however been requesting for a change in school placement.
Under the current classification, senior schools are grouped into four categories: Category 1 (C1), which comprises former national schools; Category 2 (C2), former extra-county schools; Category 3 (C3), county schools; and Category 4 (C4), sub-county schools.
