The County Government of Uasin Gishu has ordered closure of all children play areas located near or within establishments licenced to sell alcohol.
In a public notice, the county announced that it had banned children play areas near alcohol drinking establishments.
The establishments include bars, clubs and pubs.
“The public is hereby notified that children play areas are strictly prohibited within or in close proximity to drinking establishments,. including bars, clubs, pubs and any premises licenced to sell alcoholic drinks,” read part of the notice signed by the County Promotive and Preventive Chief Officer.

The county said the directive which take effect immediately was issued in like with public health, child protection and safety regulations.
It is meant to safeguard children from exposure to alcohol-related environment and associated risks.
“All business owners and operators must comply,” the county insisted.
It said going forward, establishment of play areas near drinking places is prohibited.
In addition, allowing children to access or remain in such places is not permitted.
Premises that will fail to comply with the directive shall attract enforcement actions which include fines, closure or prosecution.
“This measure is in the best interest of children’s safety, health and wellbeing,” the county said.

The directive comes at a time the national government has stepped up fight against illicit brews and drugs.
