The Selection Panel for the recruitment of nominees for the positions of Chairperson and Members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has received a total of 1,848 applications.
The application process officially closed on Saturday, 15th February 2025, at 5:00 PM.
In a press statement, the Panel’s Chairperson, Dr. Nelson Makanda, confirmed that the verification process has commenced.
He said that a long list of all applicants will be released in due course.
“By the deadline, we had received 1,848 applications, including those hand-delivered to the Secretariat on the 3rd floor of County House Building, Parliament Road, and those submitted online in PDF format to iebcselectionpanel2025@parliament.go.ke,” Dr. Makanda stated..
Dr. Makanda, in the statement, also reassured Kenyans of the Panel’s commitment to a free and fair process.
“We would like to reassure the public that, the Selection Panel is committed to conducting a fair and transparent process. In this regard, we shall keep the public informed at all stages of the recruitment exercise,” he said.
The new IEBC chairperson and commissioners who will be recommended by the panel are expected to be in charge of the 2027 General Election.
They will take up positions left vacant after 2022 general elections.
Immediate former chairperson Wafula Chebulati and 3 commissioners left office after serving for two terms while four others who rejected the Presidential results were haunted out of office.
