Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has approved the promotion of 1,948 police officers whose advancement had been pending.
In a statement on Monday, October 19, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) said the promotions follow the ruling of the Court of Appeal in Civil Appeal No. E971 & E957 of 2025.
According to the NPS, the affected officers had successfully undertaken the requisite promotional courses and met all prescribed conditions for advancement.
“Mr Douglas Kanja, MGH, CBS, OGW, has formally approved the promotion of 1,948 officers, whose promotions had been pending, to various ranks, following the ruling of the Court of Appeal,” the Service said.
The promotions take effect accordingly.
IG Kanja congratulated the officers and challenged them to uphold professionalism in their new ranks.
“On behalf of the National Police Service, the Inspector General extends warm congratulations to all the promoted officers and wishes them success in their new ranks,” the statement read.
IG Kanjs also urged the officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and diligence, noting that promotion carries greater responsibility.
He further called on them to discharge their mandate with fairness, accountability and respect for the rule of law.
The NPS said the promotions will significantly enhance operational efficiency and improve service delivery to the public, in line with ongoing reforms and strategic objectives.
“The NPS remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting and serving the public, and to transforming into a professional, efficient and responsive police service,” the Service added.
