The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is conducting assessments to better understand the volume and composition of waste generated in major towns.

Their efforts have intensified in Uasin Gishu County, where the team has been stationed since last week.

The ongoing survey focuses on solid waste categorisation across high, middle, and low-income areas, including Eldoret City.

The team’s current visit to Uasin Gishu aims to advance the implementation of the Waste and Composition Survey (WACS), a critical initiative that will generate data to inform long-term, sustainable solid waste management strategies.

We are on the verge of creating a greener and cleaner county and city for all. We will give maximum cooperation and deploy enough officers to fast-track and actualise the completion of this survey,” said Uasin Gishu Chief Officer for Environment, Mark Some.

Principal Environment Officer Diffina Salim is overseeing the exercise and leading environmental officers on the ground as solid waste data collection intensifies.
