Today the CS for the National Treasury & Economic Planning was in Parliament to make public pronouncement of Budget Highlights & Revenue Raising Measures for the FY 2026/2027& Medium Term,” Shollei captioned the photos.

How much will go to development in the 2026/27 budget?

At the floor of the house, CPA Mbadi detailed the proposed 2026/27 budget totalling KSh 4.82 trillion, out of which KSh 750 billion will go towards financing development projects.

The education sector was allocated the lion’s share of Ksh 784.5 billion, including Ksh 7 billion for the Free Primary School Education and Ksh 54.6 billion for the Free Secondary School Education, while Ksh 3 billion has been proposed as an allocation for the school feeding programme.

How much was allocated to health institutions in Kenya’s 2026/27 budget?

In the Health Sector, Ksh 20 billion was allocated to the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) while Ksh 9.3 billion has been set aside for medical interns.

The Kenya Medical Training College was allocated Ksh 10.9 billion, while Ksh 3.2 billion has been set aside for the Community Health Promoters stipend.

Ksh 20.4 billion has been proposed as an allocation for road development, with an additional Ksh 118.1 billion being allocated for road maintenance.

Meanwhile, the National Treasury has proposed an allocation of Ksh 3.9 billion for the village elders’ stipend.

The government had, in May 2026, proposed that village elders be paid a monthly stipend of Ksh 3,000. Data from the Ministry of Interior shows that there are about 110,000 village elders.
