The total value of merchandise trade in Kenya increased from KSh 418.2 billion in June 2026 to KSh 427.5 billion in July 2026, according to economic indicators reported by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.
Over the same period, the value of exports increased from KSh 118.0 billion to KSh 128.8 billion, while expenditure on imports declined from KSh 300.2 billion to KSh 298.7 billion.
In July 2026, Uganda, the USA and the UAE were Kenya’s leading export destinations, with exports valued at KSh 12.6 billion, KSh 12.4 billion and KSh 8.8 billion, respectively. Notably, the value of exports to the UAE more than doubled from KSh 4.1 billion recorded in June 2026.
By Broad Economic Category (BEC), food and beverages accounted for the largest share of total exports at 41.5 per cent. Non-food industrial supplies accounted for 26.8 per cent, while machinery and other capital equipment accounted for 9.0 per cent of total exports.
Which were the leading sources of Kenya’s imports in July 2026?
China, India and Saudi Arabia were the leading sources of Kenya’s imports in July 2026, with import values of KSh 90.1 billion, KSh 56.1 billion and KSh 19.4 billion, respectively.
By product category, non-food industrial supplies accounted for the largest share of total imports at 37.4 per cent, followed by fuel and lubricants at 22.9 per cent. Machinery and other capital equipment accounted for 15.7 per cent, while transport equipment and food and beverages accounted for 9.1 per cent and 5.8 per cent, respectively.
The total value of ICT equipment exports more than doubled from KSh 147.6 million in June 2026 to KSh 319.0 million in July 2026. Within this category, the value of telecommunications equipment exports increased by 24.1 per cent to KSh 102.7 million, while exports of automatic data processing machines and storage units increased more than sixfold to KSh 188.3 million in July 2026.
In contrast, the total value of ICT equipment imports declined from KSh 10.8 billion in June 2026 to KSh 10.4 billion in July 2026. This decline was largely attributed to a 52.7 per cent decrease in the value of imports of automatic data processing machines and storage units to KSh 2.5 billion in July 2026, as presented.

The number of active mobile money agents increased from 572.1 thousand in June 2026 to 575.4 thousand in July 2026, while mobile money subscriptions increased from 94.2 million to 94.4 million.
Over the same period, the number of mobile money transactions rose from 212.5 million to 221.1 million, while the value of transactions increased from KSh 682.5 billion to KSh 728.7 billion.
