The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Education, led by its Chairperson Julius Melly, has inspected ongoing construction works at Koitalel Samoei University in Nandi Hills and Koitalel Samoei University, Mosoriot, ahead of the President’s scheduled visit to the institution on October 18, 2026.
The inspection was conducted as the Committee travelled to Ol’Lessos Technical Training Institute in Nandi County for a public participation exercise on the proposed Education Reform Bills.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, Melly said the construction works were approximately 75 per cent complete, noting that the contractor was facing funding challenges.
He said that the Committee would work with the relevant authorities to facilitate funding for the completion of the project.
Additionally, Melly expressed optimism that the university would create significant employment opportunities for the local community once completed.
He further noted that upon completion, the institution would be considered for award of a university charter, subject to meeting the relevant requirements.
The Committee also paid a courtesy call to the University of Eldoret.
