Kenya Launches Epuka Uchafu Initiative During World Toilet Day Commemoration

The Ministry of Health joined the global community in commemorating World Toilet Day, a United Nations observance aimed at raising awareness of the importance of sustainable sanitation and the challenges of open defecation worldwide.

This year’s commemoration was uniquely significant as it marked the activation of the Epuka Uchafu Initiative, an ambitious campaign under the Ministry’s Public Health and Professional Standards Department aimed at promoting hygiene and sanitation practices across Kenya.

The Epuka Uchafu Initiative is about empowering communities to take ownership of their hygiene practices and fostering a culture of cleanliness,” Dr. Wainaina stated.
