Kenya Pipeline Company Dismisses Fuel Shortage Claims, Says Stocks Are Sufficient Nationwide

Kenya Pipeline Company PLC (KPC) has moved to calm public concern over reported fuel shortages.

The company has assured consumers that the country has adequate stocks to meet both current and projected demand.

In a press statement released Wednesday, April 8, 2026, the company said it had “noted with concern reports of shortage of fuel in petrol stations across the country,” but emphasized that its supply chain remains stable and well-stocked.

Is Kenya facing fuel shortage?

According to the statement signed by Acting Managing Director Pius Mwendwa, the system is supported by modern storage facilities with a combined capacity exceeding one billion litres.

Our data shows a healthy and continuously replenished stock position across all terminals, which suggests that any localized disruptions are unlikely to be caused by a lack of product within our system,” the statement noted.

Stock figures as of April 8 show substantial reserves of super petrol, diesel, and jet fuel distributed across key depots, with particularly high volumes recorded at facilities such as Kenya Petroleum Refineries and Nairobi terminals.

KPC further stressed that it maintains strategic reserves specifically designed to cushion against unexpected demand spikes or logistical hiccups.

The strength of our network lies not just in volume, but in its resilience — we are able to move product efficiently to where it is needed, when it is needed,” the company added.

The firm reiterated its commitment to ensuring reliability and sustainability in fuel supply, while meeting both national and international quality standards.
