Iten town, the home of champions, will on Sunday, December 18, 2022, be hosting its inaugural international marathon.
Themed ‘Run for Climate Resilience’ Iten International Marathon is expected to showcase the town’s rich talent in athletics that has put it on a global map.
With the marathon race course covering part of iten town, a number of key Roads will be temporarily closed.
A notice from race officials indicate that the roads will be closed between 6.00 am and 12.00 noon.
“We wish to notify the general public that the following roads will be affected/closed from 6.00 am to 12.00 noon on December 18, 2022 to allow the organization of the inaugural Iten International Marathon,” read part of the notice.

Roads to be closed for Iten International Marathon
Roads that will either be affected or closed because of the marathon are:
– Nyaru – Iten
– Keelu – Iten
– Kabarnet – Iten
– Kapsowar – Iten
The race organizers have however provided alternative routes that motorists can use at the time the main ones will be closed.
Some of the alternative routes include:
– Nyaru – Kaptuli – Iten
– Rural – Kaptuli – St. Patrick’s
– County Public Service Board – Jamaica – St. Patrick’s
– St. Patrick’s – Rural
“During this time, please watch out for signs, flags and kindly use alternative routes to and from Iten town,” the notice urged members of the public.

Iten International Marathon is expected to attract hundreds of local and international athletes with the prize money for winners set at Ksh1 million for both men and women races.
Athletes that will finish second and third will be awarded Ksh750,000 and Ksh500,000 respectively.
Participants that will finish among the top 20 for both men and female races will also get cash prizes.
International athletes Joycline Jepkosgei and Geoffrey Kamworor are the marathon’s ambassadors.

World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge is expected to grace the inaugural Iten International Marathon.
