KFS Conducts Aerial Surveillance Over Mau, Chemususu and Mukutani Forests

The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has undertaken an aerial surveillance mission over the Mau, Chemususu, and Mukutani forest ecosystems.

Chief Conservator of the Forest (CCF) Alex Lemarkoko led the exercise on Saturday, November 15, 2025, after attending the Chemususu Dam Marathon.

The surveillance was to assess forest health, detect emerging threats, and reinforce ongoing conservation efforts.

The mission focused on monitoring illegal activities such as encroachment and logging, with the CCF emphasizing that regular patrols are essential for protecting Kenya’s vital water towers,” KFS said.

After the aerial assessment, the CCF, who was accompanied by Patrick Namagwa, Assistant Commandant, also toured Mukutani Forest Station, where he inspected ongoing development projects aimed at improving staff welfare and strengthening operational capacity.

He commended the Mukutani team for their progress and urged continued professionalism and accountability in forest protection.

KFS further said it remains committed to safeguarding Kenya’s forests through enhanced monitoring, improved infrastructure, and strong community partnerships
