Kitale KMTC Student Stabbed to Death by Lover Days to His Graduation

A Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student who was set to graduate this week has been killed.

Benedict Kiptoo, a student at KMTC, Kitale campus, will now graduate posthumously in the 93rd graduation ceremony on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

The 25-year-old was stabbed on the left side of his neck, allegedly by his lover, Mercy Masika alias Nancy Faizah.

Masika is said to be a hotel waitress. She is claimed to have committed the crime on Sunday, December 1, 2024, due to differences between them.

According to Dr. Evans Letting who attended to the deceased KMTC student, he died due to excessive bleeding.

He knocked on my door asking for medical attention. I laid him on my seat and bled so much. We rushed him to Wamalwa Kijana Teaching Referral Hospital but unfortunately, he was not attended to and we had to rush him to Cherang’any Nursing Home where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” Letting told Uasin Gishu News.

Kitale Police: Woman behind KMTC student’s death at large

Confirming the incident, Trans Nzoia Deputy County Police Commander Salesio Muriithi said his officers are searching for the suspect who fled the scene after the incident.

The suspect is at large and we are pursuing her. Once we get hold of her, we shall prefer murder charges,” Muriithi said.

Gladys Kipkorir, the mother of the deceased and a resident of Sacho in Baringo County said her firstborn’s death is a big blow to her family.

She called on law enforcement agencies to bring the suspect to book so that justice is served to his son.

My son was prepared to graduate on Thursday this week, in fact, he had already collected his graduation gown. I have lost my son who was my pillar, he is gone and no one will ever replace him and we need justice served,” Kipkorir said.

Kiptoo’s uncle, Japheth Kipkorir described his nephew as a creative, calm, smart and tenacious person who had a promising future.

We had very high expectations from him. We have lost an icon with good entrepreneurial skills and I suspect that is what the lady saw in him and she did not want to lose,” he said.

This incident comes at a time when the world is observing the 16 days of activism against Gender-Based Violence.
