Moi University has once again demonstrated its strength in innovation after one of its students emerged victorious at the AfriHealth Innovation Challenge 2026, held on July 23–24 at Eka Hotel, Rupa’s Mall in Eldoret.
The two-day event brought together innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and students from across the region to showcase solutions tackling Africa’s most pressing challenges. More than 100 projects were submitted, each undergoing rigorous evaluation before the finalists were selected.
Among the standout innovations was AgriTwin, an intelligent digital farming platform developed by Moi University student Joram Mwanyika. The project advanced through multiple rounds of competition, ultimately winning the Best Agritech Track Award.
AgriTwin leverages digital twin technology, artificial intelligence, and automation to revolutionise agriculture. The platform enables real-time farm monitoring, data-driven decision-making, and predictive insights. By helping farmers optimise productivity, improve resource use, and embrace climate-smart practices, AgriTwin aims to drive sustainable food production across Africa.
The award marks a significant milestone for both Mwanyika and Moi University, underscoring the institution’s commitment to research, innovation, and practical solutions to societal challenges. University officials noted that the achievement not only celebrates individual excellence but also reinforces Moi University’s position as a hub for technological advancement.
“This success is an inspiration to fellow students to pursue ideas that create meaningful impact and address real-world problems,” the university said in a statement, congratulating Mwanyika on his accomplishment.
As Mwanyika continues to advance AgriTwin, Moi University expressed confidence that he will represent the institution with distinction on national, regional, and international innovation platforms.
