Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has called on the public to now put their focus on mobilizing voters for Dr. William Ruto to be Kenya’s fifth president.
The Governor said it will not be enough for people from Rift Valley to say they support Dr. Ruto if they will not come out in large numbers in the August general poll.
He asked all aspirants who lost various seats in the just concluded United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominations to rally behind the Deputy President.
He was speaking in Chereber, in Kesses Sub-County.
Mandago’s sentiments come at a time a number of UDA nominations losers in Uasin Gishu and Nandi have opted to vie as independent candidates.
They include broadcaster Robert Arap Kemei and lawyer Kipchumba Karori who have both gone independent after losing to Mandago in the Senate seat nomination.
Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter also had to seek reelection as an independent candidate after his win was controversially nullified and a certificate issued to competitor Bernard Kitur.
A majority of the nomination losers in the region have however agreed to support the winners.
Pioneer Senator: The Life and Times of Gerald Nathaniel Kalya
Later, Mandago attended a book launch for pioneer Senator of Nandi, Gerald Nathaniel Kalya.

Speaking during the event, the county boss committed to continuing fighting for the growth of devolution once he ascends to the senate position.
Mandago, who is serving his second term as a Governor said the creation of counties was a game-changer in uniform development across the country because it brought services closer to the people and hence should be protected by all means.
He also committed to ensuring resources are allocated to documenting any history that shapes society.

Gerald Nathaniel Kalya was the first Nandi Senator, having served between 2013 and 2017.
He was launching the book titled ‘Pioneer Senator: The Life and Times of Gerald Nathaniel Kalya’.
