The government has declared Monday, June 11, 2022, a public holiday.
In a special issue of the Kenya Gazette dated July 8, 2022, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i said the day has been declared a holiday to allow Mulism faithful mark Idd-ul-Adha.
“It is notified for general information that in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 as read with section 2 (2) of the Public Holiday Act (Cap. 110), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares Monday, 11th July 2022 a public holiday marking Idd-ul-Adha,” read the gazette notice.

Idd Ul Adha is mainly an Islamic holiday, though it is usually marked as a public holiday for all Kenyans.
Idd Ul Adha, also known as Eid al-Adha is the second and biggest of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam. It honours the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah’s command
In the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah and lasts for four days. In the international (Gregorian) calendar, the dates vary from year to year, shifting approximately 11 days earlier each year.
