Health services within Uasin Gishu County might be disrupted in the coming few days.
This is after doctors working at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) and within health facilities run by the County Government of Uasin Gishu issued a 14-day strike notice.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists’ and Dentist Union (KMPDU) issued the notice on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
Among the issues that has forced MTRH doctors to down their tools is lack of a medical cover and salary arrears, which are estimated to be around Ksh 200 million.

The union what’s cancellation of the medical insurance services procured from First Assurance.
“It’s sad that doctors who is treating people cannot accept the very same services. It seems like MTRH has chosen to prioritise tenders over the health insurance of the doctors,” said a KMPDU official.
“The arrears owed to this doctors must be calculated and paid within 48 hours,” added KMPDU secretary general Dr Devji Attela.
For the Uasin Gishu County doctors, the union is demanding for implementation of the agreement reached in May 2024 which included dignified medical insurance and promotions.
“The county is already in contempt,” the KMPDU boss said.
The doctors insist the only way MTRH and Uasin Gishu county can prevent the strike is by implementing their demands.

KMPDU has scheduled the strike to start on August 6, 2025.
Should the doctors make good their threats, health services at the second largest public facility in the country are likely to be disrupted, same to the county-run health facilities.
