Construction works for the Avocado Processing Plant in Lessos, Nandi Hills Sub County is now at an advanced stage.
Works on the project has been ongoing for the last few months now.

The project is courtesy of a partnership between the County Government of Nandi and the Nandi Avocado Cooperative Society.
Nandi Deputy Governor Yulita Cheruiyot on Friday inspected the ongoing construction works.

She said the project will help mitigate post-harvest loses amongst avocado farmers which is now at an estimated 60 percent.
“To address post-harvest losses in avocado production, estimated at 60%, we are collaborating closely with development partners and the Nandi Avocado Cooperative Society to operationalize our Avocado Processing Plant in Lessos, Nandi Hills Sub County,” the DG said.
According to the deputy county boss, their focus is on increasing productivity, coordinating marketing efforts, and exploring avocado oil production to reduce post harvest losses, reliance on imports and strengthen the local economy.

“Given Nandi’s strategic location, we see immense potential for investment in high-value crop processing, capitalizing on our accessibility and geographic benefits,” she noted.
During the inspection, Cheruiyot was accompanied by her Trans Nzoia County counterpart Philomena Kapkory and Kyle Sawatzky from Bari Oil.
Aside from the inspection of the Avocado Processing Plant, the team also visited the avocado orchards of two Nandi Avocado Cooperative Society members, Samson Burgei and Sammy Sugut.
