Detectives in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, have arrested an 18-year-old man suspected of murdering an 84-year-old woman in a brutal attack that left her fighting for her life.
The victim, Florence Khosa, 84, was admitted to Cheranganyi Nursing Home after sustaining serious injuries in the attack.
Despite the medical team’s determined efforts to save her life, she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, detectives launched a manhunt for the suspect, identified as Ezekiel Nyongesa Barasa, who had gone into hiding.
“The painstaking investigations and relentless police operations eventually paid off, with detectives trailing down and arresting the suspect,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

The suspect was subsequently subjected to an identification parade, where witnesses positively identified him.

But as detectives dug deeper, another lead surfaced, linking the suspect to another alleged killing involving an 86-year-old woman in Tongaren, Bungoma County.
Preliminary investigations have further established that the suspect may have sexually assaulted the 84-year-old victim before her death.
Detectives are now leaving no stone unturned as forensic examinations and other critical lines of investigation are being pursued to reconstruct the events and establish the full circumstances surrounding the offences.
“The suspect remains in police custody as detectives piece together evidence ahead of his arraignment,” the DCI said.
