Nandi County’s Journey to having a modern stadium has officially begun.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya on Friday, December 5, 2025, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the stadium.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang said the stadium, once complete, will enhance sports infrastructure in the county, which takes pride in being the source of champions.
The stadium will be constructed by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), a move the Governor said “highlighted the national importance of this initiative in transforming sports in our region and the government’s commitment to uplifting talent across the country.”
How will the modern Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Nandi look?
The facility will feature a World Athletics–certified 400-metre tartan track, a 10,000-seat capacity expandable to 15,000, and a FIFA/CAF-compliant football pitch fitted with modern drainage and irrigation systems to ensure year-round usability.

In addition, the design incorporates state-of-the-art LED floodlights with plans for solar integration, ensuring sustainability while enabling night events.
Spectators and guests will enjoy VIP and VVIP lounges, hospitality boxes, and a comprehensive media and press centre designed to support high-quality broadcasting and reporting.
“For our athletes, this will be more than a stadium, it will be a complete high-performance environment,” governor Sang said.
The stadium will also have warm-up areas, an indoor gymnasium, and strength and conditioning rooms, which will provide the facilities needed to nurture athletes.
Moreover, there will be an accommodation block for training camps. This will allow teams and athletes to train conveniently and comfortably within the same complex.

Surrounding the stadium, the project also includes expanded parking areas, transport hubs, improved access roads, a modern drainage and flood-control system, and enhanced security through CCTV and gated entry points.
“This is not just an investment in infrastructure, it is an investment in our youth, our economy and also our identity as a county known for producing world-class athletes,” Governor Sang said.
