Nandi: Keben Dam and Water Supply Project Takes Shape As Contract is Signed

Construction works on the Keben Dam and Water Supply project are now set to officially begin.

Works on the project in Nandi county took a major step after Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency’s Chief Executive Officer, Joel Wamalwa, signed the contract with Sinohydo Officials, the company that won the tender for engineering, procurement, contracting and financing for the project.

The exercise was presided over by the Ministry Of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation’s PS, State Department for Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir, at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Nairobi.

In his remarks, the PS congratulated Sinohydro Company for winning the tender and directed them to ensure that when they begin the works, they should work around the clock to ensure that the project ends within the stipulated time.

On behalf of the Agency, Chairman Board of Directors, John Imoite stressed on the need of honoring period of construction works and adhering to the set standards in terms of quality.

He promised to be a hands on person towards ensuring that the projects runs smoothly in its implementation stage.

What does Keben Dam and Water Supply project entail?

The project scope of works include construction of a 43 meters high dam with reservoir capacity of 5,000,748 metre cubic, water treatment capacity of 24,000 metre cubic per day, construction of 82km transmission and distribution network, comprehensive last mile connectivity with smart meters and six storage tanks and construction of LVNWWDA Office Block at its headquarters.

He said the project had been promised in 2014 during the reign of the Jubilee government.

Our Keben Dam dream is slowly but surely becoming a reality. We wish to sincerely thank HE the President William Samoei Ruto for fulfilling this great promise made by the jubilee government in 2014,” Sang said.

After a series of tough negotiations, the efforts are now bearing fruits. I salute all the government officials, elected leaders at both National and County levels who have been involved in this process since inception. We commit to expedite the remaining processes and ensure the project starts soonest,” he added.
