Elected leaders from Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Nandi counties met with President William Ruto at State House on Monday, July 13, 2026, to discuss preparations for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, set to be co-hosted in Eldoret City.
President Ruto said the national event will be jointly hosted by the three North Rift counties and emphasized the need for broad stakeholder involvement.
“This evening, I hosted leaders from Elgeyo-Marakwet, Uasin Gishu and Nandi counties to discuss the upcoming Mashujaa Day celebrations to be co-hosted by the three counties in Eldoret City,” the President said.
“Considering the symbolism of the occasion, I urged the leaders to involve all the stakeholders in preparation of the national event.”
Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei, who attended the meeting, said the discussions reflected unity and a shared commitment to deliver a memorable national celebration.
“Honoured to join fellow leaders from Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Nandi in a meeting with H.E. President William Samoei Ruto at State House as we prepare for Mashujaa Day in Eldoret City,” she said.
“The discussions reflected the spirit of unity, patriotism and shared purpose that continues to bring Kenyans together. We look forward to welcoming the nation to Eldoret—the Home of Champions.”
County officials said planning committees from the three counties are already working with national government agencies to coordinate logistics, security, infrastructure and public participation ahead of the October 20 celebrations.
Eldoret was elevated to city status in 2024, and hosting Mashujaa Day is expected to spotlight the region’s growth, culture and contribution to national development.
