Royal Starlets head coach David Oduor has expressed concerns over the level of competition in the FKF Division One Women’s league.

Oduor has said that lack of financial strength by many teams has affected the level of competition as teams struggle to honor matches.

Speaking to Uasin Gishu News after his team was awarded a walkover by Rongai Eaglets who failed to turn up for the match, the Royal Starlets head coach regreted that teams are pumping lots of resources in nurturing talents from very little or no sustainable source.

Girls are here. We expected to have played our opponents but they haven’t showed up. Honoring matches in this current economic times is not an easy task,” he said.

This really affects the competition level as we have trained the whole week but have no opportunity to showcase our improvements. It becomes difficult to have another training week without a match at the end of the week,” he added.

In Eldoret, hosts Gene Queens also earned easy points after their opponents Vihiga Leeds failed to turn up for the match.

The relegation-bound side did not show up for the match that was to be played at the Uasin Gishu Primary School on Sunday.

The match outcome has since propelled Gene to the seventh position from 21 matches.

Relegation battle

Elsewhere, Langas-based Solasa Stima Queens lost their grip to beat relegation battle by going down 2-0 to league leaders Gideons Starlets.

Solasa who are in the ninth position with 21 points needed a win to keep their hopes of retaining a slot in the league alive.

But in a match played at Opanga Primary School, Narcel Adhiambo and Ivyone Ogada were all the home team needed to silence the Eldoret-based Queens.

Gideons’ now sit on top of the division one table with 52 points from 23 matches, four points clear of the second-placed Bungoma Queens.

Further, at Sang’alo Technical Training Institute, Bungoma Queens beat Eldoret Falcons 2-0 to revive their women Premier League promotion chase.

Bungoma who revamped their squad at the beginning of the second leg have had a good run in their recent matches to reach the second position.
