PETRAD AID Appeals for Local and International Support For Flood Victims

The People Transformation and Development Aid (PETRAD AID) an independent international NGO has issued an urgent appeal for the provision of food and non-food items to all flood victims.

In a notice signed by PETRAD AID director Evans Evanson Epetet, seen by Uasin Gishu News, the non -profit making, non-religious and non-political organisation said countless families are desperately in need of support from people of goodwill.

The recent floods in Kenya have left a trail of devastation, leaving countless families desperate and in dire need of assistance,” Epetet said.

He appealed for comprehensive aid including food, shelter, and medical supplies among other essential and critical necessities.

In addition, Epepet mentioned that the magnitude of the floods has resulted in severe food shortages, inadequate shelter, and heightened health risks among the affected communities. The destruction of homes and infrastructure has left families vulnerable to illness and injury, requiring immediate intervention to mitigate further suffering.

We urgently request donations of non-perishable food items (rice, maize flour, beans, cooking oil and canned goods) shelter (tents tarpaulins,  blankets and sleeping bags), and medical supplies including mosquito nets, bandages, wound dressings, and antibiotics. We also need clean water, water purification tablets as well as hygiene and sanitation kits,” he appealed.

He also said the supplies will mitigate the risk of waterborne and other related infections.

The organization called on all able and willing Kenyans and generous international organizations and persons to rally behind this call.

Your generous contributions will enable us to provide immediate relief and support long-term recovery efforts for those affected by the floods. Every donation, whether in goods or financial assistance, will make a difference in flood victims,” he added.

To support this noble course locally, a donor is required to send money to Equity Bank, Kakuma branch account number 1650277282135 or via M-pesa pay bill number 352002.

International donors have also been urged to send their support through Western Union Cash Money Transfers, Swift code EQBLKEN, Bank code 68, and branch code 165.

As of 9 May 2024, the National Disaster Operation Center (NDOC) reported that an estimated 267 people lost their lives, 188 injured and 75 missing. The report further revealed that 281,835 people (56,367 families) have been displaced and a total of 380,573 people are generally affected by heavy rains and flooding.
