Noah Lyles equalled his lifetime best with a world-leading 9.79 (0.8m/s) to win the men’s 100m at the US Championships in New York on Friday, July 24, 2026.
The Olympic champion won by a comfortable margin from Ronnie Baker and Kenny Bednarek, who both clocked 9.88 with Baker finishing just 0.005 ahead to take second place.
In the semifinals just moments earlier, Lyles had sped to a marginally wind-assisted 9.76 which would have been a lifetime best had it not been for the wind (2.1m/s).
“I think that was technically the best race I’ve had so far,” said Lyles, the four-time world 200m champion. “In training last week I ran a hand-timed 9.6, so I knew a 9.7 was coming soon. Seeing it once is nice to see; seeing it twice is a confidence booster. Seeing it three weeks in a row is no inconsistency.”
How did Sha’Carri Richardson perform in 2026 US championships?
Sha’Carri Richardson regained her national title in the 100m, equalling her season’s best of 10.77 (0.9m/s). The 2023 world champion finished 0.13 ahead of Kayle White, who also equalled her season’s best (10.90).
Garrett Scantling won a competitive decathlon from world bronze medallist Kyle Garland, 8526 to 8431.
The duo exchanged leads throughout – Garland took the lead after the long jump, Scantling gained it after throwing 16.07m in the shot put and held on after the high jump. Garland’s 48.50 clocking in the 400m gave him the lead at the end of day one.
Scantling responded with a 13.86 run in the 110m hurdles at the start of day two, taking the overall lead, but Garland regained it with a 49.60m discus throw.
A 5.00m pole vault clearance and 62.49m javelin throw gave Scantling the advantage once more and he maintained it to the end with a 4:43.78 run in the 1500m.
Sandi Morris produced her best clearance since February 2020 to win the women’s pole vault. The two-time world indoor champion triumphed with a first-time clearance at 4.90m.
Aaliyah Butler won the women’s 400m by half a second, stopping the clock at 49.93. The men’s one-lap final was much closer with just 0.02 separated the top two as Chris Bailey won from Khaleb McRae, 44.39 to 44.41.
US championships 2026: 100m hurdles results
Elsewhere in the sprints, Alia Armstrong sped to a season’s best of 12.38 to win the women’s 100m hurdles. Alaysha Johnson was second (12.42) and world long jump champion Tara Davis-Woodhall was third (12.57).
World indoor champion Chase Jackson notched up her 11th national title, winning the women’s shot put by more than a metre with 20.55m.
Olympic silver medallist Annette Echikunwoke won the women’s hammer. Her first-round throw of 75.47m stood up as the winning mark ahead of Rachel Richeson. 2019 world champion Deanna Price, one of the pre-event favourites, recorded three fouls.
World bronze medallist Curtis Thompson won the men’s javelin with his final-round effort of 87.59m, a season’s best.
