Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant for 2027, Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop alias Buzeki, has unveiled plans to establish a world-class athletics museum in the county to preserve Kenya’s running legacy and boost tourism and local jobs.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, July 26, 2026, Buzeki said the proposed Uasin Gishu Athletics Museum will serve as a Hall of Fame dedicated to celebrating athletes from Uasin Gishu and the wider Rift Valley who have put Kenya on the global map.
“Uasin Gishu County is globally recognised as the home of champions. Our hills, roads, tracks, and training camps have produced some of the greatest athletes in history… It is time that their remarkable achievements are preserved in a world-class institution worthy of their legacy,” Buzeki wrote.
What Uasin Gishu Athletics Museum will feature
According to the proposal, the museum will include:
- Medals and trophies from the Olympics, World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and other international competitions
- Historic memorabilia including running shoes, training kits, bib numbers, stopwatches, and personal items from champions
- Interactive displays with race footage, world records, biographies, and memorable moments in athletics history
- A digital archive documenting Kenya’s greatest athletic achievements
- Inspirational galleries aimed at teaching young athletes about discipline, sacrifice, and determination
Buzeki said the museum is envisioned as more than a tribute. He pitched it as a major tourism attraction that will draw visitors who come to Kenya to train or experience the country’s running culture.
“Visitors from around the world who come to train in Kenya… will have an opportunity to immerse themselves in the story behind our success,” he stated.
How will Uasin Gishu Athletics Museum benefit locals?
He projects that increased tourist arrivals will benefit hotels, restaurants, transport, and conference facilities, creating new employment across the county. Local businesses are also expected to gain from spending on accommodation, food, and guided tours.
The businessman-turned-politician further said the Uasin Gishu Athletics Museum will provide a marketplace for young people to sell locally made souvenirs, athletics apparel, artwork, books, photographs, and cultural products.
He also said musicians, filmmakers, photographers, and digital artists will get a platform to showcase talent while earning sustainable incomes. Further, Buzeki proposed that the facility host annual athletics exhibitions, sports conferences, coaching clinics, school competitions, and international forums.
“This project is about more than preserving medals and memories. It is about preserving our identity, inspiring future generations, strengthening our economy, and ensuring that the stories of our heroes continue to motivate the world,” he said.
Uasin Gishu has produced multiple Olympic and world champions and is widely regarded as the heartland of Kenyan distance running. Buzeki, who is eyeing the county’s top seat in 2027, said the museum would cement the county’s status “not only as the birthplace of champions but also the global centre for athletics knowledge and innovation.”
“Our champions have made history for the world. It is now our responsibility to preserve that history for generations yet to come,” he said.
