Popular Gubernatorial Candidates in Bomet, Murang’a, Kakamega Revealed – DP Ruto Men Trailing

/

Deputy President William Ruto’s allies in Bomet, Kakamega and Murang’a would lose their gubernatorial bids if elections were to be held today – a latest opinion poll by Mizani Africa has revealed.

A survey for Bomet gubernatorial contest conducted between 24th and 26th May 2022 across the 5 constituencies shows that former Governor Isaac Ruto is the most popular candidate.

He commands the lead with 50.5 percent.

Incumbent Hillary Barchok is second with 44.5 percent. Barchok who became governor following the death of Loyce Laboso is vying on a UDA ticket, while Ruto is vying using his Chama cha Mashinani party.

In the Kakamega race, the survey conducted within the same period as that done in Bomet shows that ODM’s Fernandes Barasa had overtaken Cleophas Malala.

The former Ketraco boss who recently teamed up with Lugari MP Ayub Savula polled 48.9 percent against Malala’s 24.3 percent.

Malala who played a key role in Musalia Mudavadi’s move to Kenya Kwanza is vying on an ANC ticket, under the coalition whose presidential candidate is DP Ruto.

7.2 percent of the respondents interviewed are still undecided, meaning the Kakamega gubernatorial race is still wide open.

And in what might come as a surprise to many, the Mizani Africa opinion poll for the Murang’a gubernatorial race indicates that the Jubilee candidate Jamlek Kamau is ahead of UDA’s Irungu Kang’ata.

UDA has been considered the most popular party in the Mount Kenya region, and the latest survey may ruffle feathers within the DP Ruto-led party.

In the survey, Jamlek Kamau, a former MP for Kigumo has the highest popularity rating, polling 43.2 percent with UDA’s Kang’ata following closely with 41.6 percent popularity.

Wairagu wa Maai is third with 7.8 percent while Irungu Nyakera polled 5.7 percent.

1.4 percent of Murang’a locals surveyed as still undecided.

The Muranga’s gubernatorial popularity opinion poll was conducted between May 24th and 26th 2022 with a sampling size of1,068 from the seven constituencies.

It has a sampling error of +/- with a 95 percent confidence level.
