Uasin Gishu Senator Prof Margaret Kamar has joined Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja.
Prof. Kamar led other leaders from the North Rift region in joining the political outfit which ODM leader Raila Odinga is expected to use in vying for the presidency.
In a photo shared on Twitter by the ODM party, the Senate Deputy Speaker joined Azimio la Umoja alongside former Marakwet West Member of Parliament Linah Jebii Kilimo and former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo.
Former Aldai MP and a once-powerful minister Sally Kosgey was also pictured in the photo that has Raila, Nakuru Governor Lee Kiyanjui, and his Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart Eng. Alex Tolgos among others.
“Azimio La Umoja Movement continued to reap big as Party Leader @RailaOdinga officially welcomed UG Senator Margaret Kamar, CAS Linah Jebii Kilimo, former IG David Kimaiyo, and former Minister for Agriculture Dr. Sally Kosgei into the Movement,” tweeted ODM.

Tolgos and Kinyanjui have already declared their support for the former Prime Minister’s presidential bid.
The recent move by the North Rift leaders comes as a boost to Raila’s bid to be the fifth president.
It is only recently that Langas Member of County Assembly Francis Muya, and youthful politician Samson Mugo, alias Samkiz also joined Azimio la Umoja.

North Rift region is considered a political base for Deputy President William Ruto who is also eyeing the presidency.
Until Thursday, January 27, 2022, Prof Kamar had remained silent on the political side she is allied to.

While most of the Uasin Gishu politicians have openly joined DP Ruto’s UDA, Kamar, alongside Moiben MP Silas Tiren have remained mum – opting to remain neutral.
UDA politicians have been hitting out at Tiren, Kesses MP Dr. Swarup Mishra, Joshua Kutuny of Cherangany, and Prof Kamar for being against DP Ruto.
With Prof. Kamar now allied to Azimio la Umoja, it still remains unclear whether she will be defending her Senate seat or not.
The Senator had in October 2021 said she would announce a seat she will be vying for in December 2021, but that announcement was never made.
Since then, she has kept off local politics.
Kamar won the Senate seat in 2017 vying for as a Jubilee candidate.
In the previous election (2013), she unsuccessfully vied for the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat, finishing a distant second.
