ODM leader Raila Odinga’s bid to be the country’s fifth president has received a major boost.
This is after a section of political leaders in Uasin Gishu County declared their support for his bid under the Azimio la Umoja.
In a political rally at Huruma Grounds in Turbo Sub County on the outskirts of Eldoret Town on Saturday, January 22, 2022, Langas MCA Francis Muya led other leaders in declaring their support for Raila.
Muya is a two-term MCA and a former councilor in the defunct Eldoret Municipal Council.
He won re-election in 2017 under the Jubilee party.
Announcing his support for Raila’s Azimio la Umoja, the MCA expressed the need for all communities in Uasin Gishu to live together in peace, as they have done for the last 10 years.
“All communities in this county, we will live in peace and will allow everyone to vote the way they want. A person that will win is the one that will be our leader but for us, we are supporting Raila Odinga,” said Francis Muya.
The MCA also said he will be seeking re-election through the Azimio la Umoja.
Another leader who joined Raila Odinga camp is businessman Samson Kimani Mugo alias Samkiz.
Samkiz unsuccessfully vied for the Huruma MCA seat in 2017.
In the upcoming poll, he will be vying for the Turbo parliamentary seat.
“Let’s be ready, let’s register as voters. Those from outside living here do the same so that we see the Azimio agenda come to fruition,” said Kiplombe MCA Ramadhan Ali.
Ali is the only ODM elected leader in Uasin Gishu County for two consecutive terms.
“I want to declare here that as Azimio la Umoja in Uasin Gishu, we have agreed that Samikiz is the man we will be voting in as our MP in Turbo Constituency,” said the Ward Rep.
During the Huruma rally, several Amani National Congress (ANC) Uasin Gishu officials were also in attendance alongside Kipkorir Menjo, an ODM National Executive Committee (NEC) member.
