Small-scale traders and business operators across Uasin Gishu County have been granted a reprieve after the county government extended the application deadline for market spaces by three days following an unprecedented surge in public demand.
According to a public notice issued by the Directorate of Trade and Enterprise Development under the Department of Trade, Investment, Industrialisation, Tourism, Cooperatives, and Enterprise Development, the new application window runs from Wednesday, 16th September to Friday, 18th September 2026. The final deadline is set for 5:00 PM on Friday.

Boosting Trade Under the Nguzo Kumi Agenda
The stall allocation drive is a centrepiece of Governor Jonathan Bii’s Nguzo Kumi (Ten-Pillar) development agenda, aimed at driving economic empowerment, creating jobs, and standardising commercial infrastructure in Eldoret City and rural sub-counties.
The centrepiece of this initiative, the multi-storey 64 Ultra-Modern Market in Eldoret CBD, is designed to house over 4,000 traders once fully operational. Built in partnership with the National Government’s Affordable Housing and Urban Development scheme, the multi-billion-shilling facility aims to resolve long-standing challenges of congestion and informal street vending by providing modern, weather-proof facilities.
Similarly, modern markets in Kapseret, Ainabkoi, Kesses, and Matharu are being upgraded to provide decentralised economic hubs for agricultural producers and retail vendors.
