There is a new brand of illicit brew in Eldoret town and its environs, the Uasin Gishu County Security team has revealed.
According to Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr Eddyson Nyale, the new brand is known as ‘Koroga’ in the streets.
Dr Nyale warns that the brew is dangerous. It is manufactured in a form of powder and a user buys it and then mix with water to get the alcohol.
“There is a new brand of alcohol called ‘Koroga’. It is merely powder that is emptied into a glass and added water. When one drinks it, after about seven minutes, that individual will act as if he/she is taller than everybody,” explained the county security boss.

But with the emergency of the new brand, Dr Nyale has now directed all National Government Administrative Officers to launch a crackdown to wipe it out from the market.
“I direct chiefs, Deputy County Commissioners (DCC) and all security teams to also change tact. When criminals invent new tricks, we also need to change the way we handle them,” said the Uasin Gishu County Security Committee chairman.
Insecurity
Concerning the current state of security in the county, Dr Nyale said it has improved in recent weeks, but warned that any criminal elements planning to ‘resurrect’ will be dealt with accordingly.
He asked those planning to engage in criminal activities to find another legitimate business, or be caught by the long arms of the government.
“If there is any thought of criminal elements, know that this threat is not a joke. If you think or you’re planning to terrorize locals, as a security committee we will not sit down but instead, we will deal with you,” the County Commissioner warned.
Police station at Kimumu/Bahati Fresh Produce Market
Further, Dr Nyale revealed that they are planning to set up a police station at the Kimumu/Bahati Fresh Produce Market.
The Ksh100 million market, constructed by joint funding by the European Union and the County Government started being utilized recently after the closure of the Eldoret Wholesale market.

There have however been complaints over the lack of basic facilities and lack of security.
“We will establish a police station at the market and also work on the lighting around it,” said the county security boss.
The market has witnessed an influx of traders, and the county commissioner says they are committed to ensuring it has an ample environment for the booming business.
“We will also increase police patrols around the market,” he affirmed.
