A woman suspected to be involved in a job scam targeting Kenyans seeking employment in Mauritius has been arraigned in a Nairobi court.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified the suspect as Maria Wangare Kamunge, alias Rish Kamunge.
She is said to be the the Director of Trustpine Travel Agency.
In a statement on Friday, March 28, 2025, DCI said Rish Kamunge appeared in court for custodial orders on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
“She was subsequently remanded at Capital Hill Police Station,” the police said.
The case is scheduled for mention on Friday, March 28, 2025.
According to the police, victims of the said Mauritius job scam reported paying between Ksh 200,000 and Ksh 400,000 for job placements, only to discover that the promised opportunities were nonexistent.
“Some individuals even travelled to Mauritius, where they found themselves stranded at the airport without assistance and were ultimately deported back to Kenya,” noted the DCI.
Investigations have since revealed that 43 victims sent Ksh 12.9 million to the suspect.
