The County Government of Uasin Gishu has stepped up preparations for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, with the City of Eldoret playing a key role in urban readiness.
On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, County Secretary Philip Meli led a team comprising City Manager Elzeba Busienei and other county officials in a meeting with the National Mashujaa Day Steering Committee, led by Kodeck Makori, Director of the Administration Division at the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, to review progress.
The team assessed ongoing projects and inspected works at 64 Stadium and Kipchoge Keino Stadium to ensure all preparations remain on schedule.
Preparations are being coordinated through a whole-of-government approach involving the National Government, the Uasin Gishu County Government, the City of Eldoret, and other stakeholders to ensure the city is clean, secure, and ready to host the event.
This year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations will be jointly hosted by Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, a move expected to boost infrastructure, stimulate economic activity, and reinforce Eldoret’s position as a leading economic hub.
Mashujaa Day is celebrated annually on October 20. Initially, the celebrations were to be hosted by Elgeyo Marakwet at Kamariny Stadium before it was moved to Eldoret.
