Patrick Matasi: Football Kenya Federation Suspends Kakamega Homeboyz FC Goalkeeper Over Match-Fixing Allegations

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has provisionally suspended goalkeeper Patrick Matasi for 90 days amid allegations of match manipulation.

FKF, in a statement on Thursday, March 27, 2025, said the suspension bars Matasi from all FKF-sanctioned events and competitions as investigations into the matter commence.

According to FKF, the decision follows the circulation of videos raising concerns about possible match-fixing.

The federation said it has since communicated the suspension to Matasi’s club, Kakamega Homeboyz FC, and is working with FIFA, CAF, and other relevant authorities to conduct an official investigation.

In a statement, FKF reaffirmed its commitment to fair play, stating, “The Federation remains committed to upholding integrity in football and ensuring a fair and transparent process for all involved parties.”

The federation has promised to provide further updates as the investigation progresses. Matasi, a seasoned goalkeeper who has represented Kenya at international tournaments, has yet to comment publicly on the suspension.

Matasi denies involvement in match-fixing

But as the suspension takes effect, the former Harambee Stars goalkeeper has denied being the individual in a viral video allegedly speaking with a match-fixing agent.

His club’s chairman, Cleophas Shimanyula, revealed that Matasi informed him the person in the video is not him.

When the first video surfaced on Wednesday night, I sent it to him, and he responded by saying he had no knowledge of it. This morning (Thursday), I shared the second part with him, but he maintained that it is not him in the footage. He is shocked by these videos,” Shimanyula told the Daily Nation.
