Ruto Speaks With Uhuru on Phone, Reveals What They Discussed

President-elect Dr William Ruto finally had a phone conversation with outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto’s win on the August 9, 2022, general election was on Monday, September 5, 2022, confirmed by the Supreme Court.

This was after a petition filed by his main competitor Raila Odinga was thrown out.

And in his first address, after his win was upheld by the apex court, the President-elect said he would call the president.

I will shortly be putting a call to my good friend President Uhuru Kenyatta. I will be doing a call to him so that we can have a conversation on the process of transition,” Ruto said.

That call has finally been made.

In a tweet on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, the President-elect listed some of the issues that he discussed with the outgoing Head of State.

They include the August 9 poll as well as the ongoing transition process.

I had a telephone conversation with my boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta. We discussed the just concluded General Election and the transition as envisaged by our democratic tradition and practice,” Ruto tweeted.

Not spoken in months

This is the first phone conversation that Ruto and Uhuru have heard for several months.

In his address on Monday, the President-elect who has served as Uhuru’s deputy since 2013 revealed that they have not spoken over the phone for several months.

I haven’t talked to him in months,” he said.

But Ruto’s revelations might not have come as a surprise to many since they have not been on good terms.

Uhuru publicly endorsed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the country’s top seat and even went ahead to campaign against his deputy.

However, with Dr Ruto’s win now confirmed, the outgoing President has no otherwise but to accept that his successor will be a man he opposed his bid.

The President-elect is set to be sworn in on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
