The County Government of Uasin Gishu will soon produce its own asphalt, a key raw material in road construction.

This follows the ongoing installation of an asphalt production plant in Baharini area on the outskirts of Eldoret City.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim on Friday, April 17, 2026, visited the site to assess installation works.

Bii said the project is part of his promise to enhance infrastructure across the county.

Nguzo Number Six is firmly on course, with renewed focus on strengthening infrastructure across our county,” the governor said.

Today, I assessed the ongoing installation of the asphalt (bitumen) production plant, a transformative investment that will anchor our road development agenda,” he added.

According to the county boss, once operational, the asphalt plant will significantly reduce construction costs.

He described the project as a game changer.

By producing this key raw material locally, we will significantly reduce construction costs, improve efficiency, and ensure consistent quality in our road works,” Bii said.

The Uasin Gishu Asphalt Plant is in Baharini, Eldoret.

Asphalt is a durable, waterproof composite material (aggregates, sand, and filler mixed with bitumen) primarily used as the top wearing course in constructing highways and urban roads.
