Safaricom has unveiled Daraja 3.0, a significant upgrade to its M-PESA API platform, marking a leap into Fintech 2.0 and commemorating 25 years of connecting lives and enabling innovation.
The launch event brought together developers, fintech partners, and technology leaders reflecting Safaricom’s commitment to co-creating Kenya’s digital renaissance.
Officiating the launch, Esther Waititu, Chief Financial Services Officer at Safaricom PLC, reaffirmed the company’s commitment.
“Daraja 3.0 is a gateway to the next frontier of fintech,” Waititu said.
“By empowering developers with secure, scalable, and intuitive tools, we are unlocking new possibilities in digital finance and financial wellness. Developers play a critical role in the M-PESA ecosystem. What is Daraja 3.0?
Daraja 3.0 is built on a modern, cloud-native architecture that delivers improved reliability, security, and system responsiveness.
The overhaul ensures higher uptime, stronger compliance with global standards, and faster rollout of platform enhancements, enabling integrators to build and scale services with greater confidence.
The upgrade further expands Safaricom’s API ecosystem with new capabilities. These include Security APIs that enhance fraud detection, prevention and identity verification. The upgraded platform allows businesses to build and host their services within the M-PESA Super App, offering instant reach to millions of users while reducing distribution costs.
Additionally, the advanced product APIs will create new opportunities for integrators to develop relevant, simple and secure solutions across different sectors.
