The National Police Service says it has enhanced patrols across Uasin Gishu County ahead of the August 9 general election.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Ayub Gitonga Ali says the patrols are meant to ensure the security and safety of locals and their properties are guaranteed, before, during and after the upcoming poll.
Speaking to uasingishunews.co.ke, on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, Ali asked locals in the county not to be worried about their security ahead of the poll.
“I want to Uasin residents of Eldoret and Uasin Gishu that we have made proper arrangements for security and safety. They should not be worried,” said the Uasin Gishu County police boss.

He further revealed that they have placed their officers in strategic areas across the county to help gather any information that will help them ensure peace is maintained.
Ali, however, noted that there have been no incidences of violence during the ongoing political campaigns, and challenged politicians to continue maintaining and preaching peace, even in their vote-hunting mission.
“With campaigns ongoing, so far we have got no incident reported of confrontation amongst supporters of different politicians and as the security team we appreciate this,” said the county security boss.
“We hope to continue remaining peaceful all through the campaign season and after the August 9 poll,” he added.

The Uasin Gishu County Police Commander also called on locals not to plan of moving out of the county in fear of election-related violence.

He said everybody has a right to live in any part that he/she wishes, and to vote without fear.
“If you are a voter here, you have a right to remain here and cast your vote. There is no need of thinking of moving out,” Ali said.
“Once you cast your vote, go back home to your normal business and allow us the police to provide security as IEBC officers do their work of vote counting,” he added.
Uasin Gishu was listed by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) among the six high risk counties ahead of the August 9 poll.
There have been enhanced peace and cohesion efforts, even as various political leaders have committed to ensuring a peaceful election period.
