National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has challenged senior government officials from the Western Region to use their positions to advance the government’s economic empowerment agenda.
Speaking during a meetings with a delegation from Bumula Constituency on Sunday, August 9, 2026, Wetang’ula expressed concerns that despite the region’s many officials in key positions, politicians continue to shoulder much of the responsibility for championing development.
He also highlighted President William Ruto’s development record and announced that KSh 7 billion has been included in the budget to construct a dual carriageway from Malaba to Nakuru.
According to Wetang’ula, the project is expected to ease transportation and address persistent congestion along the busy route caused by the growing number of trucks.
On political issues, the Ford Kenya Party leader said the Luhya community is now closer to the Presidency than ever before and urged locals to position themselves strategically, including by supporting President Ruto’s re-election for his second term.
He also expressed his support for President Ruto’s ambitious Vision 2060, noting that a meeting will be held this week with its drafter, Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, to unveil the roadmap for transforming Kenya’s economy and accelerating national development.
