John Akola

The Kitale National Polytechnic is now under the leadership of Dr. Tom Mulati. Mulati who on Thursday, February 27. 2025, took over from the outgoing Chief Principal John Akola. The Ministry of Education has since transferred Akola to Kisii National Polytechnic. Dr. Lawrence Guantai, the Director in charge of Training Management at the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) oversaw an elaborate handing over ceremony at the giant institution. Mulati who handed over on Tuesday 25, February 2025 swapped positions with Akola. Taking over, the new Kitale National Polytechnic boss said he looks forward to working with the institution’s governing council, teaching and non teaching staff as well as the over 12,000 students. "I am happy to be back to the Kitale National Polytechnic and look forward to working closely with all the stakeholders to take this institution to the next level," Dr. Mulati said. He called on the Kitale National Polytechnic community to accord him the necessary support to raise academic standards. Handing over leadership, Akola said the transfer is a normal deployment and appreciated the government through the ministry of education for allowing to serve the institution for a period of four years. "Our objective is to equip our youths with skills needed both locally and internationally. We also give certificates to Kenyans who have skills but do not have them. We do this through Recognition of Prior Learning Programme (RPL) ," Akola stated. He prevailed on all the stakeholders of Kitale National Polytechnic to support his successor. "I urge you to embrace my brother the way you embraced me when I landed here in 2021," Akola urged. Dr. Guantai said the two National Polytechnics are very crucial for TVET education in Kenya.
