Kitale National Polytechnic Principal John Akola Clears the Air over His Transfer

Kitale National Polytechnic Chief Principal John Akola has come out to clarify controversies surrounding his transfer.

Akola is set to swap positions with his Kisii National Polytechnic counterpart Tom Mulati.

His transfer has however received objection from a section of former students and members of the community around the institution.

But speaking exclusively to Uasin Gishu News, Akola said the Ministry Of Education consulted him over the matter and he agreed to move to the new challenge.

I accepted and consented. I am going to Kisii to bring the peace witnessed in Kitale and I will also bring notable transformation in the national polytechnic,” Akola stated.

Why former Kitale National Polytechnic students are against principal’s transfer?

Following his transfer, the Kitale National Polytechnic Alumni Association opposed it arguing that the transfer was malicious.

We strongly oppose the abrupt transfer of our esteemed Principal, Mr. Akola John Otieno, to Kisii National Polytechnic. The abrupt nature of this transfer, taking place in the middle of the term, raises questions about the motives behind the decision,” read part of the alumni statement.

They stated that the Chief Principal should be allowed to complete and operationalize the projects initiated during his tenure.

Mr. Akola John Otieno has initiated several significant projects aimed at improving the institution’s infrastructure, academic standards, and student welfare. It is only fair that he is given the time to see these projects to completion to ensure continuity and progress,” the former students argued.

They also want Akola’s leadership retained within the Kitale National Polytechnic.

His dedication to equity and fairness has fostered unity and trust among all stakeholders,” they added.

However, the outgoing Kitale National Polytechnic principal said the ministry did not need the input of the alumni before effecting the transfer.

Tom Mulati, the new Principal is expected to take over from Akola on Thursday, 27 February 2025.

The Kitale National Polytechnic has an enrollment of over 12,000 students.
