Tambach Set To Host Elgeyo Marakwet’s First University After Stakeholders Endorse Plan

Elgeyo Marakwet County is poised to establish its first-ever university at Tambach after key institutions in the area unanimously agreed to coexist with the proposed institution.

The breakthrough came Tuesday, April 14, 2026, during a stakeholders’ engagement at Tambach High School, led by County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development Thomas Maiyo.

The meeting brought together the Iten/Tambach Municipality Manager, ACC Tambach, Chief Principal of Tambach High School, and representatives from the Ministry of Education, Moi Tambach Primary, KUPPET, KNUT, and Kenya Prisons.

Stakeholders in the education sector agreed to the establishment of the Elgeyo Marakwet’s first university in Tambach.

All parties agreed to support the university and adopt a framework for harmonious coexistence.

CECM Maiyo termed the consensus a critical milestone for the county’s education and development agenda.

This university will transform Tambach into a regional education hub, expand opportunities for our youth, and stimulate economic growth,” he said.

The proposed university is expected to improve access to higher education, create jobs, and attract investment to Elgeyo Marakwet County.
