TikToker Washington Auka Advices Kenyan Men Abroad to Avoid Unnecessary Compliments to Women

Popular Kenyan TikToker living in the United States, Washington Auka, has warned Kenyan men working abroad to be mindful of how they interact with women in foreign countries.

Speaking exclusively to Uasin Gishu News, Auka, a resident of Trans Nzoia County, explained that casual jokes or other friendly behaviour that are harmless in Kenya can easily be misinterpreted in foreign countries like the U.S.

Some common compliments and jokes in Kenya can have serious legal implications in the States. Our men should be very careful with women abroad if they don’t want to be deported or sent to prison,” he said.

Why was a Kenyan nurse in the US arrested?

Auka’s caution comes days after the arrest of the 46‑year‑old Kenyan nurse, Abedinecho Kyalo Katue, in Orlando, Florida.

Katue, who was employed as a nurse at AdventHealth, is accused of sexually assaulting a patient.

According to the investigators of the incident, the suspect allegedly entered the room of an amputee, touched her inappropriately while she was confined to her hospital bed, and then disappeared in January 2025.

Police later tracked him down through his vehicle and arrested him.

His arrest report says the patient, an amputee recovering from a separate surgery, felt uncomfortable with his comments before the incident.

What did the arrested US-based Kenyan nurse tell the patient?

The patient recorded him saying, “I can’t remember the last time I took care of such a young, black, beautiful girl like you,” read part of the report.

The nurse is currently held at the Orange County Jail without bond and is facing felony charges.

Authorities there emphasise that every suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

In light of the incident, Auka, a digital creator, influencer and founder of the Kenya TikTok Annual Awards (KTAA), urged Kenyan men abroad to maintain professionalism and ethical standards so that they do not find themselves on the wrong side of American laws.
