More than 400 vulnerable community members from Matisi, Bidii, Hospital, Tuwan and Kiminini wards in Trans Nzoia have received energy saving cooking stoves from the county Department for Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change.
The Jikos were courtesy of the Financing locally Led Climate Actions (FLLOCA) program.

Beneficiaries who were identified by the Ward Climate Change Planning Committees converged at the County Climate Change Unit (CCU) offices in Bidii ward where they were issued with the eco-friendly jikos.
They included widows, the elderly, women and men who were identified as most needy in the communities they come from.
According to county officials, the initiative’s intent is to promote climate resilience through actions that support adaptation.

Chief Officer in the Department Dorothy Nyukuri who spearheaded the exercise underscored the benefits of using rhe eco-friendly cooking stoves in promoting conservation measures by reducing illegal logging.
Nyukuri also noted that the initiative will help reduce respiratory diseases as well as eye infections since the jikos emit less smoke while using fewer pieces of firewood which also means that they are economical.
Jubilant beneficiaries shared their joy and experience as they received the cooking stoves from the climate Change Unit officials who coordinated the exercise.
