Moi’s Bridge–Matunda Water Supply Project Nearing Completion, to Benefit over 100,000 People

Construction works on the multi-million-shilling Moi’s Bridge–Matunda Water Supply Project are now at an advanced stage.

Water Principal Secretary Julius Korir on Saturday, September 5, 2026, visited the project to inspect its implementation progress and assess the status of the ongoing works.

The project is being implemented through the North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency.

Current status of Moi’s Bridge–Matunda Water Supply Project

According to the PS, the Run-of-River Intake Works at River Chepkaitit had reached 89.8% completion, while construction of the 14,270 m³/day conventional Water Treatment Works at Leltangat was 55.4% complete, with reinforced concrete works ongoing.

The approximately 32.8-kilometre treated water gravity main to Maji Mazuri and Milimani Tanks was reported to be 86.7% complete, with 27.749 kilometres already installed,” Korir said.

Construction of the four water reservoirs had reached 74%, while the 105.8-kilometre HDPE distribution network was 50.8% complete,” he added.

How many will benefit from Bridge–Matunda Water Supply Project?

Upon completion, the Moi’s Bridge–Matunda Water Supply Project is expected to provide reliable water services to approximately 104,000 people, equivalent to 23,112 households, by 2040 in Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, and Trans Nzoia Counties.

During the project inspection, PS Korir called on the contractor to increase work streams and accelerate implementation.

He further called for the implementation of a well-resourced Recovery Works Programme, backed by a detailed catch-up plan, to recover lost time and ensure timely completion of the project.
