The County Government of Nandi has unveiled plans to transition its health facilities to solar power in a push for green, reliable and cost-effective energy.
The initiative was discussed during a consultative meeting held Friday, August 28, 2026, chaired by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Finance and Economic Planning, CPA Alfred Lagat.
The meeting brought together Hospital Management Committees, Medical Superintendents, heads of health facilities and financial partners from KCB Bank.
According to the County Government, the solarization program seeks to harness solar energy to provide clean, sustainable power for health facilities across the county, reducing over-reliance on the national grid and lowering operational costs.
The engagement with KCB is part of the county’s strategy to explore innovative and sustainable financing models to strengthen health infrastructure and improve efficiency in healthcare delivery.
Also in attendance was CECM for Health and Sanitation, Dr. Angeline Kirui, alongside other health sector officials and stakeholders.
The county said the shift to green energy is part of its commitment to building a cleaner, more resilient and sustainable healthcare system for residents.
“Through the adoption of green energy, the County Government remains committed to building a cleaner, more resilient and sustainable healthcare system for the people of Nandi,” the county said in a statement.
Once implemented, the project is expected to ensure uninterrupted power supply in hospitals and dispensaries, critical for cold-chain storage, laboratory services and emergency care.
