Two top Kenyan referees have once again been selected for high-profile officiating roles this time in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2024/25 final, featuring Egypt’s Pyramids FC against South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.
The two are Gilbert Cheruiyot and Stephen Yiembe.
Cheruiyot will serve as the First Assistant Referee, while Yiembe has been appointed as the Second Assistant Referee for the continental showdown.
The elite duo are no strangers to the international stage, having officiated in major CAF and FIFA tournaments, including FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Olympics, AFCON and AFCON qualifiers, and previous CAF Champions League fixtures.
In a further endorsement of his credentials, Stephen Yiembe has also been selected to officiate at the FIFA Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States from June 14 to July 13, 2025.
The CAF Champions League final is scheduled for Sunday, June 1, 2025, at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, with kick-off set for 8:00 p.m.
The CAF Champions League, known for sponsorship purposes as the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and formerly the African Cup of Champions Clubs, is an annual club football competition organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
It is contested by top-division African clubs.
Competition winners are decided through a round robin group stage to qualify for a double-legged knockout stage, and then a home and away final.
CAF Champions League is the most prestigious club competition in African football.
