The County Government of Uasin Gishu is developing a policy framework that will be crucial in the operationalization of an Asphalt Concrete Plant set to be established in the Baharini area on the outskirts of Eldoret City.
According to Governor Dr Jonathan Bii’s manifesto under pillar number 6, the administration seeks to upgrade and maintain road networks within the county to all weather standards.
The County Integrated Development Plan CIDP for 2023-2027 on infrastructure development provides that there shall be established Asphalt plant to upgrade roads to bitumen standards in Uasin Gishu County.

The County Executive for Roads Engineer Joseph Lagat has been leading a team from the department in drafting key areas of the legislation that will enable the devolved unit to have a robust policy to promote equity, stakeholder engagement, transparency and accountability that will enhance societal benefits and the success of infrastructure development projects.
“The governor is keen on all projects being completed on time and within budget while maximizing their value and impact on the people of Uasin Gishu.

“We want to come up with a strong policy framework that will help us have sustainable outcomes, especially in enhancing climate-smart road infrastructure, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in the operations of the plant.” CECM Eng Lagat stated.

Uasin Gishu continues to be recognized as a leading county in the region in various aspects such as food safety standards, enhanced road infrastructure and business support, it’s also known for its rapid development, particularly in Eldoret City, one of the fastest-growing urban centers in Kenya.
The County Executive for Roads is expected to present the draft policy to the cabinet next week subject to other stages of approval including the cabinet itself.
Members of the policy formulation team include; Roads Chief Officer Geoffrey Tanui, Directors Eng. Julius Ronoh (Roads), Lazarus Sile (Transport and Mechanical Services), Mark Tarus (Administration), and Eng Linus Yego (Deputy Director Roads) among others.
