A General Service Unit (GSU) officer has been arrested and placed in remand custody after allegedly shooting a woman dead at an entertainment joint within the GSU camp mess in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani said the incident occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at around 6 p.m. when police received reports of a shooting involving a GSU officer and a woman at the facility.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect, who is attached to the GSU VIP Protection Unit, arrived at the entertainment joint armed with a concealed firearm before targeting the woman.
“The suspect came with a hidden gun and went straight to the woman and shot her,” said Sicharani.

Police investigations indicate that the woman, identified as Doris Murey alias Dorii, was shot at least five times during the attack. Detectives who processed the scene established that she sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including five bullet injuries to her back and another wound on the back of her head. Investigators also recovered spent cartridges at the scene as part of the ongoing probe.
Sicharani said no other person was injured during the shooting despite the presence of other patrons at the entertainment joint. Following the incident, the suspect fled, prompting police officers to launch an overnight manhunt.
“The suspect later fled, and we started hunting for him the whole night. He was arrested, and investigations are ongoing,” the county police commander said.
Police have since recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting and are holding it as an exhibit. Investigators suspect the suspect and the deceased had previously been involved in a romantic relationship that may have deteriorated. Police also established that it was not the first time the woman had visited the GSU camp mess.
While describing the circumstances surrounding the killing as tragic, Sicharani noted that the suspect had previously maintained a good record in service.
“He was a good officer. We will take him to court for a miscellaneous application tomorrow and later be charged with murder,” Sicharani said.
The suspect remains in custody as police continue with investigations into the motive behind the fatal shooting.
