Uasin Gishu: Jonathan Bii Pledges to Promote Inclusivity, Diversity

Governor Jonathan Bii has committed to advancing inclusivity and diversity within the Uasin Gishu County government.

He made the commitment while presenting his administration’s progress to the Senate Committee on Cohesion, Equal Opportunity and National Integration.

The County Government of Uasin Gishu is comprehensive, consisting of 2,787 females and 1,852 males,” Governor Bii stated, underscoring his efforts to promote women into top leadership roles in his administration.

He further emphasized that Uasin Gishu County is committed to being an equal opportunity employer, offering roles to individuals aged between 20 and 65, with the aim of enhancing service delivery and improving financial stability for its employees.

Governor Bii also highlighted the county’s efforts to include a diverse range of communities beyond the dominant Kalenjin group, in line with constitutional requirements. This initiative, he explained, aims to foster inclusivity and partnerships among all ethnic groups for the stability and cohesion of the county.

We want Kenya to be recognised as the best country in terms of inclusivity,” Governor Bii said, pointing to the successful incorporation of 34 ethnic communities within Uasin Gishu.

He assured the Committee that the county has implemented measures to secure employment opportunities for youth, women and Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs), with specific projects tailored to their needs. This is part of the county’s affirmative action efforts to ensure that marginalized groups are adequately represented.

Senator Beth Syengo encouraged the governor to use local radio stations to better reach marginalized groups. Governor Bii responded positively, affirming his commitment to promoting the inclusion of youth, women and PWDs in the cou20nty workforce.
